Organic farming as we know it today has existed in Austria for nearly a century. It all started with a single organic farm in 1927, which marked the birth of organic agriculture in this country. The spread and significance of organic farming in and for Austria have been growing ever since. The facts behind this success story: Organic products make an important contribution to society. Organic products are on the rise – in ecological, economic and social terms alike. The formal framework for them has existed for more than 30 years. Austria was among the first countries to establish binding standards for the organic production of foods.
